I’ve been sparse on the postings lately but I have a lot of great new fashion work coming soon.
In the meantime here’s a few people who’ve caught my eye (and ear). Drew Gardner — a British photographer. His fashion stuff is pretty crazy- it looks like a Disney movie. Not really my aesthetic but he does it well. What I’m really interested in is his series called the descendents project which you can find under “people”. It’s a great idea and I’d be curious to find out what his process was in creating some of those backgrounds.
When I was in Santa Fe last month I stumbled across the work of Masaru Tatsuki. Large gleaming prints full of the lights of decotora trucks– a subculture of decorating semi trucks in Japan. Apparently he spent ten years on the project and it really shows. A great combination of portraits of the trucks as if they’re personalities of their own and portraits of the drivers who created it. And almost all shot at dark with bright lights and saturated colors which I love.
Also I love the musician Emily Wells from L.A. She has a unique cover of “juicy” by the notorious b.i.g. Beyond singing she plays violin, glockenspiel, organs, and a crazy assortment of other instruments and does some crazy looping with it. Listen to “Mt. Washington” she also cites Vivaldi as a big influence and you can really hear it which i think is pretty great. What if we had a bunch of photographers walking around citing Rembrandt or Vermeer as their major influence on their lighting?
